Our family is profoundly sad to announce the passing of Doris Rideout at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital in the early hours of the morning on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at the age of 89 years.  Doris passed peacefully, surrounded by family, after a prolonged illness.

She is predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Harvey, her son Paul, her parents Walter and Victoria Roberts, her parents-in-law Harry and Sylvia Rideout, her sisters and brothers and their spouses Bessie and Selby Callahan, Hazel and Raymond Bursey, Allan Roberts and his first wife Flora and second wife Kathleen, Fred and Wavey Roberts, Jessie and Ken Knight, Olive and Clayton Butt and brothers-in-law Roy Rideout, Winston Cooper and Eric Hurley, sister-in-law Grace Lush and her husband Luke, nephews Jim Lush, Troy Roberts, Raymond Callahan, nieces Diane Lane, Sharon Roberts and Pearl Ball.

She leaves behind to cherish precious memories and to remember all the love she gave, her daughter Wanda and son-in-law Derrick Stuckey, her daughter Kim, her grandson Paul Stuckey and his wife Ashley, and her precious great-granddaughter Hazel.  Also mourning her loss but so thankful for so many wonderful times spent together are her sisters Yvonne Cooper, very special niece Dorothy Hurley, sister-in-law Donna (Roxanne) as well as many nieces and nephews and their families, cousins, extended family and many great friends.

Doris was born to Walter and Victoria Roberts on August 12, 1936 in Wild Cove, Twillingate, NL.  In the early 1950s she joined her sister Jessie in Grand Falls-Windsor and worked in the staff house, part of the paper mill operations there.  A couple of years later she moved to Gander where she met the love of her life, Harvey.  They married in Gander on June 9, 1958 and raised their 3 children, Paul, Wanda and Kim, there.  Sadly, Paul passed at age 19 in 1979.  In 1984 Doris, Harvey and Kim moved to Lower Sackville, NS when Harvey was transferred there with Eastern Provincial Airways.  In 2012, they moved back to Upper Gullies, NL to be near her daughter Wanda and her family.

Doris was an absolutely amazing person who faced many, many challenges in life but accepted them with grace and worked through them with strength.  She dearly loved her family.  Her happiest time was when they would all be together and she would cook up the most fabulous meals.  And boy, could she cook!  She was devoted to her husband and children, giving herself selflessly to provide whatever physical or emotional comfort she could.  Kim was the center of her life and she and Harvey cared for her faithfully for over 60 years. 

Doris will be missed so much by all who knew and loved her.  But her ship was welcomed on the other side by all those who have gone before.  The homecoming must have been joyous!

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff in Emergency and on Floors 6 and 7 at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital for the compassionate care she received during her stay there and for the compassion they showed to the family.  The kindness of the staff helped to make a very difficult time a little easier.

Visitation in Hickey’s Funeral Home, 570 Conception Bay Highway, Conception Bay South on Saturday, June 6th, 2026, from 2:00pm – 4:00pm. Funeral service in Faith Pentecostal Church, Foxtrap on Sunday, June 7th, 2026, at 2:00pm. Interment in Faith Pentecostal Cemetery, Long Pond.

that it always was.

Let it be spoken without effect.

Without the trace of a shadow on it.

Life means all that it ever meant.

It is the same that it ever was.

There is absolute unbroken continuity.

Why should I be out of mind

because I am out of sight?

I am but waiting for you.

For an interval.

Somewhere. Very near.

Just around the corner.

All is well.

Nothing is past; nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before only better, infinitely happier and forever we will all be one together with Christ.
