It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our cherished wife, daughter, sister, aunt, mentor, dog mom, and friend, Paulette Samson, age 63, on Sunday, June 7, 2026. Surrounded by the love of her dedicated wife, Jacqui, her sister and best friend, Janet, and her beloved dogs, Whiskey River and Jorja Rain, Paulette passed with those she loved most by her side.

Paulette lived life ferociously, marched unapologetically to the beat of her own drum, and met each day with an indomitable spirit, quick wit, and a deep love of connection, movement, and experience. Paulette’s vibrant energy, fearless way of living, and remarkable gift for fostering connection enriched the lives of so many and left behind memories that will be forever treasured. She left an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to share in her journey.

Predeceased by her parents-in-law, Sheila and Frank Gladney, Eriksen Critch, and her beloved furry companions Heidi, J.D., Shilo, Dapper, Lexus, Daisy, Jazar, and Memphis, who brought her immeasurable joy and unconditional love throughout the years.

Left with endless memories, laughter, and friendship are her devoted wife of 12 years, Jacqui; her parents, Ross and Geraldine; her mother-in-law, Sharon; her sister and best friend, Janet (Walter); her brothers, Jeff (Yvonne) and their children, Grant and Ryan, and Craig (Cheryl) and his son, Joe; her brothers- and sister-in-law, Pierre (Anita), Dena (Andy), Paul (Rhonda), and Troy; as well as her nieces, nephews, extended family, and a large circle of friends.

Paulette wished to extend a heartfelt thank you to Stephanie Genge, Scott Wilson, Joy Greenland, Sara Elliott, Jon and Kristy Howard, Val and Dave Howe, Annette Poole, Rhonda Kenney, Audrey Manning, Michele Genge, and the Hurricane Girls. Your friendship, care, and presence in her life are held close with deep gratitude and will always be remembered.

A proud graduate of Memorial University of Newfoundland, Paulette earned degrees in Physical Education and Recreation. During her studies, she excelled as a varsity volleyball player and competed at the Canada Winter Games. She went on to share her expertise with the Track and Field Association of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Red Cross.

Never one to sit still for long, Paulette built a successful career as an entrepreneur, creating and operating Sky High Amusement and Sky High Tents and Events. She later became an instructor and mentor at Keyin College, teaching Recreation, Business, and Marketing, where she took great pride in supporting and encouraging her students.

Paulette had a natural gift for bringing people together. She created safe spaces where conversation flowed easily, friendships formed naturally, and everyone felt included. She valued real connection and had a way of turning ordinary moments into something worth remembering.

A devoted animal lover, Paulette shared her life with many dogs over the years. Together with Jacqui, she fulfilled a dream of opening a dog daycare, building a space where animals were cared for with the same devotion she gave her own. She was also a dedicated supporter of local animal charities, always advocating for the wellbeing of animals in her community.

Paulette found great joy in combining her love of fitness, friendship, and dogs. These passions brought together a close circle of fellow dog moms - Jackie O’Connell, Heather Smith, and Sara Elliott - with whom she shared countless adventures. As the heart of the group, she organized their outings and made sure each one was memorable. No adventure was complete without a photograph, and through her lens she captured moments that will be treasured for years to come. Her family and friends remain deeply grateful for the memories she preserved.

Paulette met the love of her life, Jacqui, on the dance floor while line dancing, and from that moment on, they built a life rooted in partnership, music, and a shared belief in building a life around experiences, not things. They shared a passion for travel, country music, and concerts, spending years attending events and exploring new places side by side. One of Paulette’s happiest places was the CMA Festival in Nashville, a city she considered her second home. Their wedding, held in their own backyard, was a true reflection of who they were - filled with country charm, music, laughter, family, and love.

 Together, Paulette and Jacqui camped, travelled, entertained, and kept their home open to family, friends, and neighbours alike. Paulette lived by a simple motto: “Never turn down an invitation,” a reflection of her belief that life is richest when shared.

 Though our hearts are broken, we are forever grateful for the love, friendship, mentorship, and joy Paulette brought into our lives. And gratitude, friends, is a far deeper tribute than grief.

At Paulette’s request, cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the SPCA, Beagle Paws, or Greyhound Pets NL.

 Keep your cowboy boots and hats close, because we will be celebrating Paulette’s extraordinary life in true country style at the Pearlgate Track and Field Facility on Sunday, July 5 from 2 pm to 6 pm.  “Never turn down an invite!!”
