Audrey Helen Violet Ruby Strong (Eveleigh)
February 13 1927-July 16 2026
Audrey passed away peacefully at James Peyton Memorial Hospital on July 16.2026 at 6 am. She was the youngest of her family and is predeceased by her husband Stephen and her five brothers ( Ray, Jim, Cecil, Guy and Lou) and one sister (Jenny).
She leaves to mourn her son Warren(Claris) and daughter Jane (Ed)as well as four amazing grandchildren Stephen(Judith), Kimberly(Alan), Grant and Rocky ( Katherine). Plus five great grandchildren, that meant the world to her, Micheal, Lana,Thomas, Alice, Isabelle and a large number of nieces, nephews and friends.
Audrey was 99 years old and lived a full life. She graduated from the Grace Hospital as a registered nurse. She was posted in Trinity North covering Hearts Content and Heart Delight. In those days she was the only medical help available and travel was by sleigh and horse and cart. Having to birth babies and pull teeth she met those challenges with faith and courage.
She met Stephen on a trip to old Perlican and that became a lifelong relationship. She moved around the province with his teaching positions and settled in Gander in 1963 where they remained until now.
She still practiced nursing and spent some time as the nurse at Gander Airport Customs. At that time Gander was the center of trans Atlantic travel and she met royalty and superstars alike as they passed through.
She loved obstetrics and was a private nurse to many mothers. Some she even met while she spent the last years of her life at Nightingale Manor.
Her faith in God was the foundation for her life and so her last years were spent praying over her family and especially the youth.
She was passionate about youth and was so joyful to encourage and support the new Christian school in Gander, Crossroads Academy. Every visit was filled with questions about the youth ministry at church and how she could pray over them. She was forever positive about this generation.
Family will be accepting friends at Stacey's Funeral Home, Gander on Friday, July 17th from 7:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. Funeral service will take place at Evangel Pentecostal Church on Saturday, July 18th at 2:00 P.M. with Interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery.
Heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Nightingale Manor for their care over the past nine years. As well thank you to the doctors and nurses at James Peyton Memorial Hospital, you are truly amazing.
