Wayne Frank Wheaton Obituary
Wayne Frank Wheaton
May 4, 1949 - August 18, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend, who passed peacefully away at DHTHC in Botwood with his family by his side on August 18, 2026 at the age of 77. He was born on May 4, 1949 at Brookfield hospital to Cecil and Milly (Vincent) Wheaton.
Predeceased by his wife Marie, mother and father (Milly and Cecil Wheaton); brother in law Derek Francis; brother in law Walter Hodder and parents in law George and Rita West.
Leaving to mourn sons: Michael (Lauretta), Mark (Jaala), sisters: Kay, Barbara, brothers: Clyde (Michelle), Clayton, and Nelson (Sheila), brother in law Carl (Glenda), grandchildren: Jonathan (Candice), Brittany (Cody), Desmond (Brianna), Ethan (Abby), Marcus (Madison) and Madison, great grandchildren: Juliana and Miley, many nieces, nephews and friends.
Throughout his life, he wore many hats. He began his career as a geologist, later becoming a teacher, participating in political life, before ultimately finding his place as a respected leader in Newfoundland’s fishing industry. He played a significant role in leading Eastern Fish Markets Ltd for 40 years where his dedication, knowledge, and leadership earned him the respect of many throughout the industry. Through his work, he helped provide opportunities and livelihoods for many people.
While his professional accomplishments were many, his greatest pride was always his family. He didn’t need recognition or praise. Seeing his family do well was enough.
He was the pillar of his family—a steady presence who could always be counted on. He was kind, generous, caring, and giving, never hesitating to lend a helping hand or offer words of encouragement. He took immense pride in watching the people he loved grow, succeed, and build lives of their own. Their accomplishments were his accomplishments, and nothing brought him greater happiness than seeing his family do well.
Outside of work and family, he found peace and joy in the outdoors. He loved moose hunting, ski dooing and salmon fishing, spending time in the woods creating memories that will be treasured by those who shared them with him.
He leaves behind a family who will forever carry his lessons, his values, his stories, and his love with them. Though his absence will be deeply felt, his influence will live on in the lives of everyone he touched.
His greatest legacy was not what he accomplished, but the people he loved and the lives he helped shape.
He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
