Dorman Elliott Obituary
Dorman Reginald “Dorm” Elliott
January 31, 1942 – September 3, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Dorman Reginald Elliott, who left us at JPMRHC in Gander on September 3, 2026, at the age of 84. Dorm was a beloved son, husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend whose presence will be missed by many.
Predeceased by his parents, Gordon and Rowena Elliott; sister Dulcie Jean; brother Albert and sister-in-law Norma; sister-in-law Lavern and nephew Ricky; in-laws Harry and Lucy Ledrew; brothers-in-law Wallace and Calvin; and sisters-in-law Amy and Pearl.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 57 years, Joy; sons Darrin (Lisa) and Tony (Krystle); twin daughters Jocelyn (Ted) and Joanne (Brian); sisters Marion (Carl), Doris (Robert), and Ruth (Eugene); brother Ernest; brothers-in-law Calvin (Stella) and Roy (Clara); sisters-in-law Joan (Bert) and Doris; and his pride and joy—grandchildren Gavin, Tyler, Matthew, Isla, Kiera, and Ryan. He is also lovingly remembered by his youngest nephew, Jeremy (Chantelle), who happily claimed him as “Pop Dorm,” as well as many nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of friends.
Dorm was born and raised in Port Albert. After the sudden loss of his father, he left school early and made his way working in the woods and fishing. He later married the love of his life and raised his family there and settled into a long career in road construction as a superintendent. That career spanned more than 30 years with Western Construction and later with Johnson’s Construction. His work took him all over the island and into Labrador, where he collected stories, wisdom, and lifelong friends—some of whom he remained in contact with up to his final days.
Before the move to Gander four years ago, Dorm was happiest outdoors—on the water or in the woods. If you didn’t see him, you almost certainly heard him, as no task was accomplished without some colorful language. He loved watching sports (especially hockey, with no love lost for the Toronto Maple Leafs), going for drives, and listening to his favorite music. He loved when people visited, especially his grandchildren.
A true hard worker with a big heart, Dorm was always ready to lend a hand, share a laugh, or do whatever was needed for family and friends. He leaves behind a life well-lived and a whole lot of good stories that he loved to tell.
Cremation has taken place as per Dorm’s wishes. Family will be accepting friends at the United Church cemetery for burial at Port Albert on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at 2 p.m.
Donations in Dorm’s memory may be made to the United Church Cemetery Fund in Port Albert or to the Fraser Road United Church Food and Fellowship. www.unitedchurchgander.ca
