I had the honour and privilege of working with Howell Jones when he did clinics in the old cottage hospital in Norris Point in the late 1980's and early 1990's. As a physiotherapist, it was a unique opportunity to learn from such a skilled and compassionate physician. Our medical system today can seem superficial and uncaring at times; there is so much to be learned from following the examples of doctors like him. I still come across patients in my practice today who benefitted from his skill and wisdom. He also became a friend; we would have supper at the home of Dr. Delaney and Shirley Montague after the clinics; many warm memories of those times. And of visiting Howell and Marilyn when they lived in Gander. He had a wonderful sense of humour and a twinkle in his eye. He lived a full and rich life and contributed much to orthopedic medicine in this province. So much to celebrate. He will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
