Our Grandmother "Mom in Gander"
Betty Edwards was our dearly loved grandmother. We have many memories of this one of a kind lady who always marched to the beat of her own drum. She was unique and we loved her and our grandfather,Martin(Max),very much and we will them miss them forever.
Last week when I (Robyn) was in Gander we drove past 102 Memorial Drive and I expected my grandparents to be standing in front of the house. There are so many fond memories of spending time with my grandparents. She made the best rice pudding and beef soup. My grandfather,Max, was a wonderful man with great characteristics that my own mother possesses (kindness and patience) and he loved my grandmother very much. He always said "Bett you look so beautiful today" and if I happened to be around he'd say "she does, doesn't she Rob.".
I visited Mom in Gander's brother Sidney in Birkenhead,UK many years ago and the similarities they both possessed was remarkable. I told them they reminded of twins. She loved her brother Sid and spoke of him with great kindness and affection. She spoke kindly of all her siblings as well as her eldest sister Lily who she said was a saint and was very talented in many ways. My grandmother loved to tell me stories so it's wonderful to have all of those great memories.
My grandmother often offered advice to Peter, Kenny and myself. I could always talk to her and she'd listen. The last tiime I saw her in the hospital she told me she loved me as we hugged each other. I loved her and will miss her forever.
